Scientists are now reporting that Arctic Sea ice is likely to disappear within the next 20-30 years, once again revising an already revised timetable for the melting which was not expected to happen for many decades.

While you probably already know, as the ice melts and exposes open water, the sunlight penetrates deep into the water and accelerates the warming process exponentially.  This, like the increasingly exposed permafrost in Siberia that then emits the greenhouse gas methane, is what’s called a feedback loop, meaning it speeds up the warming that caused its release which in turn causes more melting and so on.

As my Martian friend would ask, what exactly is your species trying to accomplish?
