Those cultures that have preserved their relationship to nature, the indigenous peoples of the world, are today reminding the rest of us to stop and think about what we’re doing to the natural world.

And the message could not be simpler.  The more we respect and attend to the environment that sustains our very survival, the greater our chances of survival.  The more we disrespect and destroy our environment, as we’re now passionately attempting to do, the more we diminish the prospects for a livable future.

It would be wise, I think, to pause and listen to what such people of conscience are desperately trying to teach us, as indeed they’ve been striving to do for the past four hundred years.
